Ranjit Ranjan Sinha, a resident of Delhi’s Bijwasan area, was arrested after a Gurgaon resident complained that the accused duped him of Rs 13.50 lakh on the pretext of a lottery prize, the police said, adding that they have also seized documents related to 10 bank accounts from his possession.

The complainant, Dalbir Singh Chowdhary, a property dealer, said the accused offered him huge sums of money, claiming that he had won a million pound lottery prize in 2010. Chowdhary was asked to deposit processing fee in seven bank accounts provided by the accused on different occasions.

“When the victim did not get the prize money as promised, he lodged a complaint with Palam Vihar police station in February this year, said Alok Mittal, the joint commissioner of police.

Mittal said the accused has been sent to four days police remand.

He is part of an online lottery fraud racket and was working with a franchise company of a private bank in its account opening department.

“There are a number of people who are a part of this racket and among them, some are Nigerians,” the joint commissioner said.
