Meghalaya Government has invited electronics giant Delta Electronics to set up an electronic plant in the state and a detailed discussion on the issue will be held in the first week of March in New Delhi.
The representatives of the multi-national company will be in the national capital to meet DoNER Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar.
Meghalaya Finance Minister Conrad K Sangma said that he had an initial discussion with senior officials of Delta Electronics in Bangkok recently during which he had invited the company to invest in the state.
The company (Delta Electronics) has three plants in India and is currently planning to set up another plant in the North-East, Sangma said.
Delta Electronics, which is engaged in manufacturing of UPS, telecom power supply, LCD and mobile phone components, computers and televisions, already has three manufacturing units in the country located at Gurgaon, Rudrapur and Pondicherry.
Sangma hoped that the state should benefit from the investment. He, however, said that issues related to employment and other benefits would be discussed thoroughly with officials of the company before taking any decision on setting up of the plant.
