Former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal misused power to crush his political detractors during his regime in the state, alleged chief minister Virbhadra Singh at Shamashi here on Sunday.

He was campaigning for his wife Pratibha Singh, Congress party candidate of Mandi parliamentary byelection.
Lashing out a scathing attack on Dhumal, Singh said, there was a dictatorial rule in the state during the BJP regime and all power was in control of the police.
Singh said, “During the BJP regime my room was bugged and all family members' phones were taped.”
He said during the BJP rule, freedom of the common man stymied in the state, which was the result of phone taping on massive scale in the state.
Countering the BJP campaign, Singh said Dhumal had a habit of levelling false charges against his political rivals.
“He tried to malign my image by implicating false cases and levelled bogus charges against me,” Singh added.
He flayed Dhumal on development issue and said he left a debt of Rs 30,000 crore on the people of state, which had shattered the economy of the state.
“Now, the state government is working hard to bring the situation on track and ensured the smooth development equally all over the state,” he added.
He said the government was committed to common people and initiated several schemes such as skill development allowances and other welfare schemes for the welfare of common people in the state.
He said 70% reservation in jobs for Himachalis in industries and factories have been ensured by the state government, but the company officials did not adopt the rule properly during the BJP regime, which led to high unemployment rate in the state.
Singh said he assured the people of the state that their rights would not be compromised at any stage and company officials would be forced to adopt norms of the state government.
He asked the voters of the district to support Pratibha Singh in the Mandi byelection and ensure her victory with a huge margin.
He said she was not new for that constituency because she had already served the people of this constituency.
