The disease spread to Nai Basti, Bhaisur Ghat, Naya Mahadev, Rajghat Prahlad Ghat, Bazardeeha, Bhadau Chungi and Parav areas. An outbreak was earlier reported from Bakrabad, Jalalipura, Sarraiya, Ausanganj, Ansarabad, Kazzakpura and Konia Satti.

About 100 patients were admitted to primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), the Dayal Upadhyay Government Hospital, the Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital, the Jamia Hospital, the Bunkar Hospital, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Hospital (Ramnagar) and private hospitals.

Over a dozen diarrhoea patients were admitted to the Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital in Kabir Chaura.

Chief medical officer Dr AP Singh said contaminated water supply was the main reason for the increasing cases of diarrhoea.

“In old city areas, most of the pipelines are adjacent to sewage pipes. Leakage from sewer lines is causing contamination,” he said. He said special arrangements were made at the divisional hospital for diarrhoea patients.

However, Jal Sansthan general manager DK Sharma said improper sanitation was the main reason for the outbreak.

He claimed tests revealed that drinking water was safe. He said residents could register their complaints about water supply on telephone numbers 2277959 and 250048.
