The police statement followed an autopsy report on Wednesday that ruled out rape and ‘gouging out of the woman’s eyes’, as reported. The woman’s husband too has negated rape.
The body of the woman – a collection agent for Sahara chit fund – was found on the highway at village Boginadi, 370km from Guwahati, on November 22. Eyewitnesses said she was flung from a three-wheeler by four men.
Several NGOs protested her ‘rape and murder’, which did the rounds after her brother-in-law lodged an FIR citing rape as a possibility.
The woman’s husband said she went missing after she left home to pick their daughter from school. “Her eyes were swollen and my elder brother wrote ‘rape’ in the FIR as a possibility,” her husband said.
