The discovery comes on the heels of the Bihar tragedy in which 22 children died after consuming lunch cooked in a container originally used to store insecticide.

BJP state general secretary Tarun Chugh, who conducted the raids, told mediapersons, “The level of cleanliness was poor in all four schools.”

Chugh also mentioned that the matter would be brought to the notice of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and stern action would be taken against those responsible for this state of disarray.

Amritsar deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal told HT, “We are conducting checks and definitely unhygienic conditions do prevail. The problem is more in urban areas but the rural areas are comparatively fine.”
