He also refuted all charges of violation of norms in converting this prime land in the heart of the city to freehold.
Talking to mediapersons, Hariom said the Gorakhpur Development Authority developed the Bismil Park in 1998 on 23,112 sq feet land. The total area of the land adjacent to the park is 6 lakh sq feet.
He further said only 12,000 sq feet of land had been made freehold in favour of a legal successor of the land in the name of Dr Siddiq Hasan, son of Rashid. He had submitted an application for freehold conversion in January 2005.
A dispute over the process of converting the land into freehold had brought the Bismil Memorial Committee at loggerheads with the district administration.
On Tuesday, Hariom said those in illegal possession of land in areas adjacent to the Bismil Park were in a tight spot, as the district administration had decided to deal with them with an iron hand.
He repeatedly said that those in illegal possession of such land would be removed.
Questioning on the validity of the Bismil Committee, Hariom said the land was registered as Arazi no. 97 in land records. Illegal possessors had constructed buildings on a sizeable portion of the land, he said.
He further said that a few years ago a part of the land was made freehold in favour of a person, who built a hotel on the land, but the committee members had maintained a silence on the issue at that time.
The district magistrate said the claim of the committee that 3.3-acre land belonged to Bismil Park was illegal. Neither the Gorakhpur Development Authority, nor the Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam had allotted land to the committee, its president Shyamanand and others had claimed, he said.
