"We just couldn't believe that she could have taken such a drastic step," said her uncle Rakesh Jung.india Updated: May 25, 2006 02:12 IST
A class XII student of DPS Vasant Kunj committed suicide at her Dwarka home on Tuesday just hours after she came to know that she had failed the CBSE board exams. She had scored 34 per cent marks and failed in three subjects.
Priyamda, an arts student, returned home from school and told her parents that she had scored 86 per cent. For the family, it called for double celebrations as it was also her 18th birthday.
Around 7 pm, she had her food and locked herself in her room even as congratulatory messages started pouring in from family friends. When she did not respond to calls, her family members broke the door to find her hanging from the ceiling fan.
She had left behind a suicide note scribbled in her notebook, "I know I shouldn't be doing this, but I cannot face you anymore." She wrote she had expected good marks in the boards.
"We just couldn't believe that she could have taken such a drastic step," said her uncle Rakesh Jung. When asked if there was any pressure on her, father Ashok Kumar Thakur said, ”I have lost my daughter. I have nothing to say."
