In order to provide better educational facilities to the students and provide better teaching environment, the education department has decided to spend Rs 9.15 crore under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan of the central government in 2013-14.

This was stated by deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar while presiding over a meeting of the abhiyan here on Friday.
He said out of the sanctioned money, Rs 2,289 lakh had already been spent for providing free-of-cost books to 12,955 students and holding special workshops for the teachers in the district.
Singhmar said 34 children of migrant labour were also given admission in Primary School at Nadaun under out-of-school children programme of the department.

Similarly, under the mid-day meal programme, as many as 30,377 children studying in primary and upper primary schools were also given free-of-cost meals and Rs 4.25 crore was spent under the programme. He said there was no shortage of funds for the mid-day programme and adequate numbers of staff had been provided in schools to run this programme in an efficient manner.
