According to the police, three people died on the spot, while three others died on the way to the hospital. The death toll could go up as several of the injured were in critical condition, sources said.

All the people in the mini truck were members of a Kabaddi team from Sedharur village. The team was returning after playing in a local tournament.

Sources said the driver lost control causing the truck to fall off a small bridge.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs1 lakh each to the family of the victims.
