Emergency recruitment for Saifai institute

A CAMPUS interview to select faculties for Uttar Pradesh Rural Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Saifai, Etawah, was organised on the GSVM Medical College premises here on Saturday. However, the campus interview has left several questions. One of them was: What was the need for an interview and why was it held in haste? In fact, the Medical Council of India team is slated to visit the institute on May 15 to review the infrastructure for giving recognition to it.

However, the campus interview has left several questions. One of them was: What was the need for an interview and why was it held in haste? In fact, the Medical Council of India team is slated to visit the institute on May 15 to review the infrastructure for giving recognition to it.

Such was the pressure that the members of the interview panel were even telling the candidates to go and join duties at Saifai before May 15. The fact was corroborated by candidates who were interviewed. One of them said that the interview panel was telling the candidates to go to Saifai and join duty immediately.

They were even told that they could appear for viva-voce and practical examinations later. A member of the interview panel asked the candidates that job in Safai is offered on ‘first-come-first’ basis. In case a MD or MS student failed in the final year examination, he would be given liberty to take the exam again after six months, said another candidate.

The candidates were even told to forget their pending exams and go to Safai at the earliest. However, they were told that they could return after joining Saifai and then take the exams.

The interview was organised to fill in 18 posts of lecturers, 15 for tutors and 19 for senior residents at the UPRIMSR. But the number of candidates was too low. This has happened, despite the fact that on May 4, a Fax was sent by the director of Safai medical college urging the GSVMMC principal to tell the all departmental heads to ensure maximum turnout of candidates for the interview.

Although over 80 students took the final year post-graduate examination, only 30 final year PG students appeared for the interview.

When several candidates were asked by The Hindustan Times what prompted them to go to Safai, most of them said, “We didn’t want to annoy the heads of our departments saying no to them, as we may have to suffer.” However, some of them said, “We will go to Safai to gain some experience. After this, we will search for better opportunities.”

Ridiculing the approach of the State Government a source who was in the interview panel said, “Half of the students who are applying would eventually withdraw from there as the entire plan of the government is to get the recognition from Medical Council of India.” He further said that after getting the MCI approval, efforts would be made to fill in 100 seats of MBBS through CPMT this year.”

During the campus interview, director general of medical education (DGME) Dr Kamal Sahani, director of UPRIMSR Dr Sodhan Singh were also present. While Dr Sodhan Singh refused to comment on the emergency recruitment, Dr Kamal Sahani, said, “By conducting such campus interviews, shortage of medical college teachers can be overcome.”

Commenting on similar campus interviews in six other medical colleges and KGMU (Lucknow), the DGME said, “As of now, there is no such proposal, but in future, we could think about it.”

Sources said that the purpose of campus interview was to complete the infrastructure at Safai for admission of 100 students to MBBS course through CPMT-06.
