Yan was with Patil for nearly 30 minutes during which they are understood to have discussed various aspects to ensure that the Olympic flame passes through India safely when it comes here on April 17.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation over the steps taken by the Government of India to provide protection to the Chinese diplomatic and consular premises. "The Home Minister has assured him of continued co-operation in this regard," home ministry spokesman Onkar Kedia said.

There have been apprehensions of security problems for the torch from Tibetans and has already seen the Chinese envoy raising the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs as well as the Indian Olympic Association. National Security Adviser M K Narayanan on Wednesday said all steps would be taken to ensure safe passage of the torch during the India-leg.
