The ban imposed by the European Union (EU) on the LTTE was a "clear and firm" message that the international community would not tolerate terrorism and violence, the Sri Lankan government said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The government hopes that this clear and firm message would provide a fresh impetus and encouragement to the LTTE to think afresh and resume talks with the assistance of the Norwegian facilitators," the statement said.

"The government shall reciprocate this constructive spirit in full measure," the statement added.
