A court remanded retired inspector Puroshottam Dabharde and his son Anand in police custody till June 28 following their arrest on Tuesday from their home in upscale Laxminagar.

According to the Wardha police, Dabharde and his son had been running the brothel for the last five years. The police also arrested two couples during the raid on Dabharde’s home. Police sources said the raid was conducted following a tip-off.

The arrests sent shockwaves through the city, given the apparently refined background of the family. Dabharde’s second son is in a foreign country and his daughter is a professor at a reputed medical college in the state.

“We are interrogating the father-son duo and ascertaining if they have any such illegal set-ups in other cities,” sub-inspector Dhananjay Saire, the investigating officer in the case, said on Wednesday.

Saire added phone numbers of many girls and women were found from a diary of the retired police officer.
