An extortionist was beaten to death and his accomplice severely thrashed by villagers in Thoubal district of Manipur, official sources said on Wednesday.
Villagers of Wabgai Tera Urak caught hold of one Swami Kumar who came to forcibly collect money from Zonal Education Officer of Kakching sub division, Mayengbam Kumar on Tuesday.
Swami Kumar's accomplice Maibam Inao was seriously injured after being severely beaten by villagers, sources said adding that Inao has been handed over to nearby police station.
Villagers of Wabgai Tera Urak decided to prevent entry of outsiders from 6.30 pm to 6 am daily following the incident.
