A FAKE couple’s divorce plea for another couple landed the former in jail. Reason: A couple identified by Kotwali police as Ajay Singh and Reena Yadav appeared in the family court on Sunday seeking divorce for Shashi Singh, owner of Swami Transport at Chinhat in Lucknow and his wife Beena.
The police said that Shashi, who was married to Beena Singh in 1988, wanted to divorce Beena. The couple have three children.
Although Shashi tried to divorce her several times, he could not do so. Shashi Singh got married to Renu Singh in 1993 and lived with her in Lucknow.
When his family members came to know about the marriage, Shashi started living separately. Also, he continued to meet Renu secretly and tried to divorce Beena.
When Shashi failed to divorce Beena, he sought the help of his friend Ajay Singh, a tout, in the court and a woman, Reena Yadav.
Both Ajay and Reena, who appeared in the court as Sashi and Beena, filed divorce papers. Earlier, Ajay and Reena registered themselves in the family court by depositing some money.
Both of them promised Shashi that they would give him the divorce certificate so that he could live peacefully with Renu.
Sources further said that a couple of days back, Shashi’s sister Saroj came to know about the conspiracy. With the support of her in-laws, Beena turned up at the family court with her two daughters, Shalini and Nidhi, and related to the judge the real story.
On hearing Beena’s plea, the judge asked the Kotwali police to arrest Ajay and Reena and inquire into the incident.
Reacting to her husband’s behaviour, Beena Singh said, “My husband had hatched a conspiracy with a lawyer Pramod Jaisawal to produce a fake couple at the family court to get a divorce certificate.”
She also said that when her sister-in-law Saroj came to know of Shashi’s intention, she related the story to a lawyer P Shukla.
With the help of the lawyer, they all revealed fake divorce story to the judge. The incident also unveiled the functioning of touts at the family court.
