Rani said this in Orchha on Tuesday where she had come for promotion of her upcoming film 'Mardani'. Rani arrived in Jhansi on Monday, her ancestral town to offer prayers at a temple.

Rani Mukherjee’s ancestors belonged to Jhansi. In 1960s, her grandfather Sashdhar Mukherjee, along with his family, went to Mumbai on invitation of his relative and famous actor Ashok Kumar. Sashdhar’s three sons Joy, Dev and Ram also joined film industry. Rani is daughter of Ram Mukherjee. The family had an old haveli at Kali Badi where Iscon temple stands today and deity Jagdatri Devi’s temple is also situated there.

Rani reached Jhansi on Monday and went to pray at the deity’s temple along with her relatives. A relative on condition of anonymity said Rani came here to pray for her ailing father. At Orchha, while promoting her upcoming film ‘Mardani’, Rani told the media that she had chosen her ancestral place for promotion because this land belonged to Jhansi ki Rani who stood firm and brave to fight injustice against the British rule.
