Excessive intake of alcohol leads to vomiting, loss of appetite, thirst, diarrhoea, hiccough, dyspnoea, tremors besides perspiration and giddiness.

Apart from the fresh juice or sweet syrup of pomegranate (dadima), juices of dates (kharjura), and raisin (draksa) have also been recommended for this purpose.

Ayurveda recommends that the food prepared from barley or wheat along with soup with little quantity of ghee is healthy. While, sour, oily, spicy and fermented food should be avoided. However, there is no harm in taking milk for nourishment.

The council also suggested the use of massage, bath and yoga to reduce the effects of alcohol.

It also tells that the cleansing measures like Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (purgation) may be given to the ailing person, under the supervision of an Ayurvedic expert.
