Fish Awareness Centre to be set up at Ropar

Punjab government has decided to set a Fish Awareness Centre at Fish Seed farm situated on the bank of river Sutlej at Ropar.

Punjab government has decided to set a Fish Awareness Centre at Fish Seed farm situated on the bank of river Sutlej at Ropar, Punjab Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy development Jagmohan Singh Kang gave this information during his visit to the Fish seed Farmon Thursdayevening.

He said the Centre would be set up at a cost of Rs.20 lakh including funds of Rs.16 lakh provided by the union government adding that aquarium would be the main centre of attraction of the Centre,which would not only attract tourists but would also be helpful in creating awareness among the people about fisheries.

Sources further said the coloured tropical fishes of about 35 species acclimatized in the waters of Punjab would be displayed in the aquarium along with full technical datas about them.

He said different ornamental fishes like platy, Tenzrine and Guppies, gold fish of different varieties like Black Moore, Siamese fighters and Angels, Gourmees like kissing Gourmees and blue Gourmees, fresh water whales and snails would be kept in the aquarium.

Minister disclosed that the department would also invite ideas for setting up the modern aquarium from Indian and foreign fisheries experts.

He said there was also a proposal to form an Angling Association to popularize the fisheries as the Ropar headworks was very much famous for Mahaseer fish which was the best angling fish for the anglers.

Kang also discussed the plan regarding the Awareness centre with the senior officials including Secretary Fisheries Punjab DS Bains, Director Sawinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner Seema jain and Fish Farmers Development Agency Chief executive Officer SM Dogra.
