Although 'Anant' began on a promising note - with sexy blouses and crystallized sarees adorning the ramp - the collection turned into one big garden somewhere along the way. Flowers, flowers and more flowers simply overwhelmed the senses.
Despite the galling obsession with floral prints, Shobhna & Vijay did bring together an interesting potpourri of cultural influences - Chikankari from India, the Parsi gara embroidery, Chinese/ Buddhist motifs and brocades and Moorish architectural patterns. According to the designers, they were trying to create an old world charm using motifs like cranes, quails, and storks from the gara; endless knots, dragons and eternity motifs from Buddhist traditions; and florals and geometrics from chikankari decorated with bugle beads, sequins, kasab, dabka, and crystals.
French Chantilly lace was patched and paneled with other fabrics - crepes, georgettes, chiffons etc to create evening and day wear. Kurtis with slender churidars, skirts, hot pants, blouses, and classic saris were crafted using the above elements.
Departing into a Japanese plane, the collection turned psychedelic with once again, you guessed it, flowers!
The saving grace was the men's collection that featured basic Indian wear in gorgeous shades of eggshell, ivory and butterscotch. Also some very sexy black kurta pyjamas with contrasting embroidery.
