Former in-laws accused of murdering youth

Police on Sunday detained Dinesh Gupta, father of Divya, and claimed that he had given Rs 60,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively her brother Deep Gupta to fly to Mumbai from Lucknow. According to police, Deep had fled to Mumbai on Saturday morning by boarding aircraft from Amausi airport.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have recovered the ambassador car and motorcycle used in eliminating Anurag Agarwal (27), a resident of Harrisganj in Railbazaar area in the wee hours on Saturday.
It may be recalled that Anurag Agarwal had gone to his uncle Ajay Kumar’s canteen at Jhakarkati Bus stand on Friday evening and then went missing and a report in this regard was registered at Juhi police station the same night.
On Saturday morning Anurag’s body was found at Swadeshi Cotton Mill ground and was later identified by Ajay Kumar. Amit Agarwal on Saturday lodged an FIR at Juhi police station against Dinesh Gupta and his son Deep Gupta.
The next day, Juhi police claimed that Anurag was killed by Deep Joshi along with an accomplice and in the killing Dinesh had also played a key role.
Police said that Anurag was strangulated somewhere between Jhakarkati and Swadeshi Cotton Mill in the Ambassador car belonging to Dinesh and at Swadeshi Cotton Mill ground he was shot in the head and then set ablaze in an bid to cover up his identity.
On Saturday police officials were unanimous that Divya had divorced Anurag as he was impotent. But in a turnaround on Sunday, police said that Divya never divorced Anurag and that it was Anurag who had left Divya for want of dowry and later married Sapna of Meerpur.
Police claim that soon after Divya was left by Anurag a case of dowry was lodged at a police station here in the city but the dispute was resolved by Achchik Bureau.
“Though the matter was resolved amicably but after the second marriage
of Anurag, Dinesh and Deep Gupta wanted to take revenge and on Saturday they killed Anurag,” said SHO Juhi Laxman Rai.
Sources said police have acted according to the FIR as Dinesh Gupta is reportedly connected with the Congress party and rival parties had entangled the father-son duo.
Meanwhile, sources said Deep Gupta had been in Mumbai for last several months and was still available on his cell phone. Deep Gupta has reportedly told police in Mumbai that if they wanted he could come down to the city. But police said that Deep Gupta was present in the city when Anurag was eliminated.
