Waterlogging at 15 main points after the first monsoon showers seems to have woken up the Noida authority, which has chalked out a new strategy to deal with all kinds of civic woes during the season.
The authority, after identifying several low-lying areas and 15 ponds, which witness heavy waterlogging every year, has formed a special team, comprising 15 engineers, to cope-up with the menace.
"These engineers will be on standby during the rain. Their contact details will be shared with residents, so that they can immediately pump out the rain water at affected spots to make the city free of waterlogging," said Sanjeev Saran, CEO, Noida authority.
Residents are the worst sufferers as waterlogging causes long traffic snarls in most areas. The rains add misery to road users, especially motorists. The potholed roads promise to give one a bumpy ride ahead.
Officials have further observed that power supply gets severely hit during the monsoon, leading to breakdown of traffic signals at most of the crossings in Noida. Moreover, the absence of traffic constables at signals aggravates the problem.
To ensure that the traffic signals function during the rain, the authority has decided to run these on solar power. "All the 85 traffic signals will be run on solar power. So far, 38 traffic signals are being run on solar power. Besides, a special team of private guards and traffic constables will be formed. They will be deployed at defunct signals to ensure better traffic management during the rains," said Saran.

{{/usCountry}}After the very first rain of this season, the authority has observed that Film City, sectors 6, 11, 12, 12/22, 51 and all the underpasses/ flyovers witness heavy waterlogging during the monsoon.
The authority hopes that the new strategy will ensure a pleasant monsoon to residents, instead of bringing in a host of civic apathies that arise because of the rains.
"We will borrow a super sucker machine from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on a trial basis to de-silt drains. Mobile carts will be used to fill potholes for the convenience of commuters," he said.
