Villagers claimed that the children complained of a sudden prickly sensation on their hands, as if bitten by an insect. This was followed by seizure and death within three hours. Two of the victims died on Tuesday morning at Koraon community health centre.
Reports of panicky residents fleeing the village were received at the CMO’s office. Around seven villagers complained that they too felt prickly sensation on their hands and were admitted to the Koraon CHC.
Meanwhile, a team of doctors led by CMO Dr Shantimal Singhavi and SDM Koraon had rushed to the spot to ascertain the exact cause of the disease. The CMO ordered to conduct autopsy of the two children who died on Tuesday. A patient with similar symptoms was also admitted at Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital and was under 24- hour observation of specialists.
According to reports, three-year-old Rahul and five-year-old Kalawati of Baidwar village were admitted to the Koraon CHC in an unconscious state. Black spots had erupted on their skin and within three hours they breathed their last.
Similarly, on August 5 and 6, two children Pawan Kumar (13) and Kamla Devi (4) died of similar symptoms. Jangilal (32) also complained of the same symptoms and was admitted to Beli Hospital by the CMO on Tuesday.
“The exact cause of the disease is still unknown. A patient has been admitted with similar symptoms to the Beli Hospital. We are conducting some tests to identify the cause of the disease. However, three things were common in all the four patients who died due to the mysterious disease. They all complained of prickly feeling on their hands in the morning, fell unconscious ten minutes later and died within three hours,” said CMO Dr Shantimal Singhavi.
The CMO said autopsy of the two children who died today at the Koraon CHC would be conducted to ascertain the cause of their death.
However, local sources alleged that a similar death had also occurred on July 20 when Arvind Kumar (10) died of the similar symptoms in the village.
