Assam Rifles personnel of 32nd battalion, acting on a tip off, raided a suspected hideout of terrorists at Lilong Nungoi area, about 25 kms south of Imphal, at around 2.30 am, the sources said.

As the Assam Rifles personnel stepped up search operation at dawn, terrorists fired upon them, sources said, adding the AR personnel retaliated and in the ensuing encounter four of them were killed.

Identities of the terrorists had not yet been ascertained, sources said, adding some arms and rounds of ammunitions were recovered from them.

Bodies of the victims were sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital for postmortem, sources said, adding search operation was still continuing in the area.
