"Sourav will be fine within the next two days, he'll be leaving for Australia with the team on Friday," said Jagmohan Dalmiya, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Ganguly, 31, was hoping to play in the tri-series final against world champion Australia, but was advised against aggravating the groin strain ahead of a tough tour.

The Indian team leaves for a 12-week tour of Australia from the southern metropolis of Chennai on Nov. 21.

India's tour comprises four Tests and a one-day tri-series that features Zimbabwe as the third side.

Two surgeries to remove an abscess from his left thigh kept Ganguly out of action for a month before he came back to play two one-dayers, but the groin strain forced him to skip the final, handing back the charge to vice captain Rahul Dravid.

Dalmiya said he had discussed Ganguly's situation with the team management and was informed that the captain would be back at nets within a few days.
