Germany, Japan urge UN resolution on Iraq

Germany and Japan called for a UN resolution to underpin international cooperation in the post-war reconstruction of Iraq.

The foreign ministers of Germany and Japan called in Berlin on Thursday for a UN resolution to underpin international cooperation in the post-war reconstruction of Iraq.

"We are agreed that there has to be concerted cooperation, and for that we need a resolution," Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi said following talks with her German counterpart Joschka Fischer.

She added: "There must be intensive cooperation with the United Nations on reconstruction" and it was "very important" the international community pulled together.
