Ghaziabad: 6 courts to deal with molestation, rape cases

To ensure speedy justice to victims, as many as six courts in the Ghaziabad district and sessions courts have been designated to deal with rape and molestation cases. HT reports.

To ensure speedy justice to victims, as many as six courts in the Ghaziabad district and sessions courts have been designated to deal with rape and molestation cases.

All the sexual assault cases will now be dealt at the designated Additional District Judge (ADJ) courts.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ghaziabad district judge Harsh Kumar said around 550 rape and molestation cases were pending at different courts in Ghaziabad.

“Apart from general cases, these courts will handle cases of rape and molestation, which got delayed at other courts. We are trying to dispose of these cases at the earliest,” said district judge Harsh Kumar.

Kumar said that around 10,000 civil and 75,000 criminal cases were disposed of at Ghaziabad from January last year to February, 2013.

To provide better working conditions to judicial officers, advocates, 13 new court rooms with sophisticated infrastructure will be constructed by 2013-end.

Four of the 13 court rooms will be for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) courts. Supreme Court judge BS Chauhan and Allahabad High Court chief justice Shiva Kirti Singh inaugurated the project.

Presently, the Ghaziabad district and sessions court has 53 courts. Several of them are being run from temporary structures.
