In last month alone, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranghubir Lal received more than a dozen such complaints.

“We have directed our police stations to monitor such complaints on a priority basis and maintain record of inter-caste, intra-caste and same gotra marriages,” the SSP told Hindustan Times.

The police will also look into cases filed under Section 363, 366, 364 (abduction cases) of the IPC and impose Rs 5 lakh penalty on families filing false cases against spouses of their children who marry against their wishes.
