The arrested men are Sunil Kumar, Mahesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar. "The three men had strangulated the victim and later hung him from a mango tree," SP Capt. MM Baig said.

Jatav was in love with an 18-year-old woman in his neighbourhood but her family did not approve of the relationship.
Both Jatav and the girl belonged to Dalit families and fearing threats, the victim’s family sent him to their relatives in Meerut, police said.

"On June 24, I was told to call Sonu from Meerut and my brothers had assured me that they would get us married. Getting my call, Sonu turned up but was killed by my brothers and hanged," police officials, quoting the girl's recorded statements, said.

The police are looking for the fourth accused Ravi Kumar.
