"The athletes have done very well," he said while singling out shooters and wrestlers for their excellent showing. Talking to reporters at the Information Office of the Golden Temple on Friday, he made a special mention of women wrestlers who had won medals for the country for the first time.

When questioned about the stadiums and other infrastructure for the Games, Gill expressed satisfaction and claimed that everyone was happy.

Before the start of the Games, doubts were expressed about the facilities in the Games village but the last-minute touches seemed to have satisfied all, he added.

The minister, along with his family, later paid obeisance at the Harmandar Sahib.
