BMS National President Girish Awasthi told reporters in Kota that the Sixth Pay Commission should have been constituted in 2003 and its recommendations should have been made applicable by January this year.

However, the Union Government had not done anything about it, he said, adding because of the anti-employee attitude of the government the various unions of Central government employees had decided to launch an indefinite strike from March this year.

The strike, however, was deferred for two months on the assurance given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the Sixth Pay Commission would soon be set up, he said.
