Criminal cases will be registered against those who purchase sugarcane for minimum price in Uttar Pradesh and sell it in neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttarakhand, the district sugarcane officer VK Shukla told reporters.

The Uttar Pradesh State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane has been set between Rs 165 and Rs 170 per quintal. The farmers of the state claim that mill owners of Uttarakhand have agreed to purchase sugarcane at rupees 220 per quintal while in Haryana the purchase price offered is around Rs 200 per quintal.

"A special drive will start in the state and raids will be conducted to stop the selling of sugarcane outside the state", Sukhla said, a control room has been set up in the district to monitor the trade of sugarcane, Shukla further added. Meanwhile, ten sugar mills out of eleven have started their crushing work after the supply of cane was restored to them by the farmers.
