While hearing a case on Noida’s polluting units, the NGT said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Noida authority, regional pollution control board, traffic police and industrial units together would prepare an action plan and submit the same to it in its next hearing on October 30.

The tribunal in April this year had asked the Union environment ministry not to give clearance to any new industrial unit in Noida. The principal bench of the tribunal passed the order after Sanjay Agnihotri, a resident of Noida, filed a petition in the tribunal against the Union of India and others. “Rising pollution violates my and my family’s right to healthy environment,” he had pleaded.

“We will have a meeting with the Noida authority, industrial units and traffic police to prepare the action plan soon,” said Parasnath, regional manager, district pollution control board.

The Noida Entrepreneur Association in its appeal had urged NGT to allow setting up non-polluting industries. The NGT will hear the case separately on September 28.
On Wednesday, the ministry of environment and forest submitted a detailed report to NGT about the environmental conditions that prevail in Noida and in its neighbouring areas. A copy of the report is with HT.
