Friends and family members of an Indian couple who committed suicide in their villa in the Hor Al Anz area here, are in a state of shock and disbelief.

Jaffer, 35, and his wife Shemi, 26, were found hanging from a ceiling fan in their house on Saturday.

While Jaffer had been working and living in Dubai for the past 15 years, his wife of two years had joined him six months ago.

"I still cannot understand the reason (for the suicide)," Naseer, a relative of the deceased, was quoted as saying.

A suicide note left behind by the couple said nobody should be held responsible for their death.

"They instructed us to send the money they left in the room to Jaffer's mother in India," Naseer said.

"They mentioned that they wanted their last rites to be conducted in Dubai itself. We are waiting for the body to be released by the authorities after completing the legal formalities."

"Both of them were not very outgoing people. They never talked much about themselves. We have no clue about the motive," added a neighbour.

A colleague described Jaffer as "always a pleasant person".

"I still cannot believe he committed suicide. He came to work on Thursday and seemed happy. On Saturday, he did not report for work, and we were informed in the evening that he had killed himself."

Police said their investigations indicate that no third party was involved and that family problems could be the possible reason behind the suicides.

"The investigation is in progress. We do not think any third party is involved. We think some family problem could be the reason," said a police spokesperson.
