Gunmen struck at two places in north and south Kashmir on late Saturday evening and killed a civilian and laid an ambush on an army convoy.
According to reports from north Kashmir's Pulwama district, unidentified gunmen shot and killed 80-year-old man in Awantipora area. He was attacked from a close range on a roadside.
The police identified the slain as Ghulam Mohammad Dar, a resident of Gogripora village in Awantipora.
In a separate incident in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, gunmen opened fire on a cavalcade of the Commanding Officer of Army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles in Kushpora area.
The cavalcade came under fire near Koote forests and was retaliated by the army men. The area has been cordoned off. Police's special operation group men and additional contingents of the were sent to the spot.
The search and combing operation launched after the attack failed to nab militants. No militant outfit has taken responsibility.
