Hester to raise poultry vaccine output

Hester Pharmaceuticals to increase its production capacity of poultry vaccines to 4.8 billion doses from the present 1.2 billion doses.

Indian poultry vaccine maker Hester Pharmaceuticals Ltd said on Tuesday it would increase its production capacity of poultry vaccines to 4.8 billion doses from the present 1.2 billion doses.

The company will also apply for the import of Avian influenza vaccines for poultry from Merial in France and the United States, which it represents in India on an exclusive basis for poultry vaccines.

India quarantined six people on Monday as authorities scrambled to contain the country's first outbreak of bird flu in poultry.

Hester said it would also apply for the import of flu detection kit in poultry from U.S.-based Synbiotics Corp.

Hester's shares were up 6.4 per cent at Rs 138.50 in a firm Mumbai market.
