Hot hues for summer blues

Colours are the mood of summer in home furnishings as are embroidery, patch work and floral prints.

Summer’s set in and it’s time to unpack the bright shades and pastels as colours dominate the roost. At the recently concluded Tex-Styles India 2004 fair the fashion mantra in home furnishing was colour and more colour and shades of reds, greens, blues, purples and yellow were the buzz word.

Colourful Capers : Though the fashion forecast for the season spells the return of white and black the picture at the display was different as most exporters swore by colours. “Colours will continue to be hot in the home furnishing segment till 2005,” said Nidhi Goel of Sapu International.

Floral Fantasy: “Florals and jacquards are also in internationally,” said Narender Gupta of AR Loomtex, however looking at the domestic market one sees organza, cotton and other sheer fabrics ruling the supply chain. Sheer semi-transparent fabric curtains in pastel colours (the flavour of summer each year) were also displayed at most stalls.

Sexy Stripes: Multi-coloured stripes dominated the exhibition. Tejinder Singh Sodhi of Suprint Textiles (Jaipur) says, “Both internationally as well as in the domestic industry, people are asking for stripes as the current look in home accessories is to have a mix of floral and geometric forms.”

Paisley Panache: Paisleys are the other motif which is most sought after. Well, not just in the home furnishing industry but in the fashion industry too as fashion stores like Neiman Marcus are swearing by this trend.
