The protesters gathered at several main intersections of Kathmandu, burning tyres and chanting slogans to demand that the government take action against the policeman who shot the 19-year-old boy.
The policeman, who is the bodyguard assigned to a top political leader, claimed he and a driver came under attack by a group of men armed with knifes and fired in self defence.
The government has ordered an investigation into the Tuesday night shooting.
