"Air Chief Marshal Tyagi, who was to confirm the sentence of the General Court Martial (GCM) against Gupta, has reduced the sentence from cashiering to simple dismissal from service," IAF spokesman Wing Cdr Mahesh Upasani said.

The order was promulgated on Friday, he added.

The GCM, trying Flying Officer Gupta, convicted her on five charges, including insubordination and financial irregularities, on December 8 last year and recommended she be cashiered -- a dishonourable discharge, entailing the removal of the officer's service insignia on a parade.

However, the sentence was subject to confirmation by the IAF chief.
