IG suspends three cops

TAKING exception to the atrocities committed by the police personnel on a newly-wed couple near Laxmipur Khurd under Nichlaul police station of Maharajganj district, inspector general police (Zone) Vinay Kumar Verma suspended three police personnel and constituted a committee to probe the case.

The committee led by the public relation officer of IG Zone Office started the probe.

According to reports, the cops dragged out a newly- wed couple from a jeep that was carrying them to their native village.

The police looted the ornaments and beat up the marriage party members. They also restored lathi-charge on the people of Laxmipur village to create fear among the villages. The police also lodged a case against two dozen villagers.

BSP leader Talat Aziz and villagers handed over a memorandum to IG zone and demanded stringent action against the accused police personnel. The newly-wed couple have also narrated their tale of woes to IG and requested him to lodge an FIR against erring police personnel. Taking notice of the incident, the IG directed the SSP Maharajganj to suspend constable Shiv Kumar, Pal Chand Maurya and Brahmanand Yadav.
