Illegal arms unit unearthed in southern TN; 3 held

One person was arrested on the charge of running an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Sankarankoil, 50 km from Tirunelveli, and ammunitions and several country weapons seized from him on Sunday, police said.

A special team headed by District Superintendent of Police Ashra Garg arrested Natarajan and seized 16 bullets, kinves and some other arms.

Natarajan told police he was involved in manufacture of country-made revolvers, ammunition and sharp weapons like sickle, knife for the past five years, they said.

He had sold around ten country-made revolvers to various persons of southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, police arrested two persons, including an ex-serviceman, of Tuticorin district for being in possession of a country-made revolver during a vehicle check. Interrogation of them led to the arrest of Natarajan.
