India inks pact with Lesotho for IT services
The government on Wednesday inked a pact with Kingdom of Lesotho for linking the landlocked country with e-network as part of the pan-African project.
The government on Wednesday inked a pact with Kingdom of Lesotho for linking the landlocked country with e-network as part of the pan-African project.
The network would provide e-services on tele-education and tele-medicine and net connectivity for video conferencing among the heads of states.
The basic objective of pan-African e-network project is to help Africa in capacity building by the way of imparting quality education to African students from Indian Universities, Minister of State for Communications and IT Gurudas Kamat said.
Further, it will provide tele-medicine services by the way of online medical consultation in the patient-end locations from Indian medical specialists, he added.
Lesotho is the the 36th country which has signed the agreement. The project is being funded by the Ministry of External Affairs with an approved budgetary cost of Rs 542.9 crore.
Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd (TCIL), a public sector telecommunication consultancy and engineering company has been designated as the implementing agency for the project.
TCIL's role is to design network, procure and install the equipment, provide operations and management services for five years after commissioning the network.
