"Singh's extensive academic background, combined with his international business experience, particularly in Asia, will be a valuable asset to Fedders as it expands globally," chairman and CEO Sal Giordano Jr said.

Singh currently serves at Wharton School in the University of Pennsylvania, where he has been a faculty member since 1987.

He served as vice dean of International Academic Affairs at Wharton during 1998-2001. He is also on the board of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, one of the fastest growing privately held biopharmaceuticals firms in India.

Singh, who has conducted extensive research in organisational strategy, holds a PhD from Stanford Business School, a master's from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management and a graduate degree from Lucknow University.

Singh's election will compliment Fedders strategy to expand its presence in new and existing markets since 2002, when it set up its first factory in India.

It also established a strategic manufacturing presence in India -- Universal Comfort Products Private Ltd. -- in a joint venture with Voltas Ltd, a leading seller of air conditioners in the country.

The operation produces a broad line of window and split system air conditioners for the domestic Indian consumer market and for export.
