Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi announced a ban on AXN, saying the channel's late night "World's Sexiest Commercials" programme was against "good taste or decency".

However, cable operators in Thimphu are not sure if the channel will be aired again in the Himalayan kingdom, Bhutanese online Kuensel newspaper reported.

"On enquiry we were told by our dealer MG Enterprise in Siliguri (India) that there were some problems with the transmission and (it) will be back after 20 days," Kuensel quoted the manager of Etho Metho Cable Service as saying.

Bhutanese AXN fans are unhappy with the sudden curtailment of the channel.

Of the total 45 channels transmitted through India, only 30 are broadcast in Bhutan, the newspaper added.
