"We are awaiting clearance from the Chinese side," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters in New Delhi.
He said the timing of the visit would ultimately also depend on the physical conditions prevailing in the concerned parts of Tibet where the weather were pretty bad with heavy rains and landslides.
"We have been in constant touch with the Chinese authorities concerned," he said adding "we have been receiving useful information regarding the status of the artificial dam and artificial lake". Both sides were closely monitoring the situation, the spokesman said.
A report from Shimla said the Army and administration has been put on high alert in Himachal Pradesh following information that an artificial dam in Tibet is likely to burst triggering flash floods in Sutlej river.
People on both sides of the river have been asked to move to safer places as a precautionary measure as the artificial dam created by the landslide, which blocked Pareechu river, is likely to burst soon because of continuous heavy rains, according to information received from China through diplomatic channel.
He said both sides are concerned. "Naturally the idea is to monitor as mush as possible and do whatever is humanly possible.
Union Home Ministry has constituted a high level committee to monitor the situation but the four-member team of experts which was scheduled to go to the site in Tibet was awaiting clearance from China for the visit.
