The troops of 16 Jat aborted the infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector near the LOC and killed five terrorists on the spot, a defence spokesman told PTI in Srinagar.
The operation is in progress and further details are awaited, he added.
This is the second infiltration bid foiled in the area in as many days and third in the valley in four days in which 17 terrorists and three Army personnel have been killed.
Yesterday, three terrorists and an Army jawan were killed in a foiled infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector by troops of the 16 Bihar regiment.
Nine infiltrating terrorists and two Army officers were killed in a nearly 40-hour gunbattle in Tangmarg area which ended on Wednesday.
Terrorists have been making desperate attempts to infiltrate into the valley before the onset of winter when all routes are closed due to heavy snowfall.
