Iraqi mission in India awaits instructions

The Iraqi embassy in New Delhi has lost communications with Baghdad but was waiting instruction about its future in India.

The Iraqi embassy in New Delhi has lost communications with Baghdad but was waiting instruction about its future here, a diplomat said on Thursday.

"We have no official information. We will decide on our next move after we hear from our government in Baghdad," Iraqi counsellor, Adday O Al Sakab, said.

Sakab said the embassy had not heard from Baghdad in five days as the telephone exchange had been damaged by coalition strikes.

He declined to comment on the recent developments in Baghdad and refused to say how many staffers were in the embassy.
