Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader E Ahmed on Sunday took a strong exception to the reported statement from National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairman Tarlochan Singh alleging that some Muslim leaders are mixing religion with politics.

In a statement, Ahmed said Tarlochan Singh should have been more conscious of the constitutional office he was holding before making such statements casting the entire community in poor light.

"This amounts to attacking the entire community. By casting the whole community in poor light he forfeits his right to hold a high constitutional office," Ahmed said.

"While trying to paint the entire community in poor light, what has the NCM chief to say about the plight of the minorities in places like Gujarat," Ahmed added.
