Jaguar crashes in UP; pilot killed

Minutes after it took off from the Gorakhpur Air Base, the fighter aircraft crashed, killing the pilot.

A Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Wednesday, soon after take off from the Gorakhpur Air Base in Uttar Pradesh, killing the pilot.

The aircraft crashed at 8.20 am IST, minutes after it left the base on a low-level tactical mission, said an IAF spokesman.

The exact place of the crash was not known, he said, adding a code of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the mishap. It was not known whether there were any casualties on the ground.
