If braving cold and heading out to noisy clubs is not your cup of tea, then utilise your terrace or balcony to usher in the New Year in style with a barbecue party. “A barbecue party is perfect to beat winter blues. The setting should be casual, but one needs to make an effort to attempt a relaxed look too,” says interior designer Vimi Singh.

Theme it right
A BBQ party is merrier with a theme. You can opt for an oriental theme with dragon motif lanterns and tableware with kanji design or go retro with disco ball lights, big floral and peace patterns. “Low seating with floral or neon coloured cushion covers and floating flowers can create a beautiful floral BBQ setting,” adds Singh. Your favourite football team or movie, Moroccan or Spanish themes are a big hit for a BBQ party.

Light up
“Play with lighting to give the area a warm look. Place colourful lamps or fill up a glass jar with string lights to give a whimsical look,” says interior designer Surbhi Gupta Tanga. Cushions and blankets in warm colours can create a cosy setting. A small bonfire or a Kashmiri kangri will add warmth to the area and give it a rustic look too.
